If you are just beginning in project management, or are part of a support team, you need to start with the basics, understanding the principles and some of the jargon. But where do you start?
We will soon be looking at some of the books that can help as we expand the books you can buy online. Just released is the latest edition of Geoff Reiss's Project Management Demystified which does exactly what it says on the cover. It explains all the basics and more.
Geoff also wrote, with Geof Leigh, One Project too many. It's a novel in which the characters meet common problems and solve them as they try to achieve the goals set by the new ceo of a fictitious supermarket chain. Geoff says this format has enabled them to bring alive the issues that face project people in their daily work but aren't often explained in the management texts.
Mike Watson's Managing Smaller Projects is also a best seller. Mike gets down to the real practical basics and his book provides a method for running small projects.
Each of these books could be recommended for those with no experience as well as people with some experience. Often a project team will have people who need an understanding of project management rather than in-depth knowledge and this is where all these books can play a part.
Over coming months we will be looking at other books for different levels of experience. Click on the Books online image at the top of the page - or buy online on the navigation - to see books available now.
