The PPSO Handbook (Set)

Author(s): David Marsh
Ref: ISBN 1-900391-07-4

The two volumes of the Project and Programme Support Office (PPSO) Handbook cover every aspect of creating and running a PPSO. David Marsh has encapsulated his experience in these two 300pp books to provide a comprehensive guide for those newly involved with project support, as well as experienced professionals working in established PPSOs.

The emphasis is on practical advice backed by examples and document templates that can easily be adapted for any organisation. For those who are new to the ideas and concept of PPSOs, the Foundation book explains the philosophy underpinning the need for a PPSO, the different types of office, and how to avoid the pitfalls and holes as you move through start-up and beyond.

Volume 2 - Advanced - explores how to reinvigorate the PPSO to make sure it not only remains in line with business needs but also adds value to the business. Anyone looking for the business case for a PPSO will find it in these volumes. The author has also succeeded in showing the linkage of the PPSO to project and programme management in general.

David Marsh has an engineering and IT background and, though many of the examples in the books are from IT, their application is universal. He has seen at first hand the problems and solutions adopted by many different organisations developing both 'virtual' and 'real' PPSOs. The structure and topics covered in the two volumes are closely aligned to the structure of the new ISEB certificates in project support.

Both volumes - available separately or as a set at £60 - bring together many of these concepts for the first time - essential reading for all those involved with a Project and Programme Support Office.
