Transfer Your Data Seamlessly Between Devices This Year

There comes a time when our old computer, laptop, or mobile device simply ceases to work as it once did, and this means we are forced to find a brand new device to carry out those essential daily tasks.

When we have found and bought a new device for ourselves, the main issue we face is the task of transferring a ton of data from one place to another. This is why we want to offer some advice on the steps you need to take this year to transfer data from one device to another in minutes.

  1. Organise your files

The first job you will need to take on when you are looking to transfer data is organisation. No one enjoys organising their data, however, it is something which is important as it will allow us to weed out any data which we don’t need anymore so that we don’t have to worry about moving useless data from one place to another. This will likely take a lot of time for you to do, but it will be more than worth the effort when you are able to condense your data into a more manageable chunk.

  1. Backup

The most important step in the process when you are looking to transfer data from one place to another is the backup. Backing up your data is something you should do often to ensure that you keep your files safe, and before risking a huge data transfer you need to make sure it is stored somewhere safely. The best thing to use for a backup of data is an external hard drive which you can plug in, download, and store separately.

  1. Transfer your data

Now that you have organised and backed-up all of your data it is time for you to transfer the data elsewhere. The process of transferring data will be different depending on the device, so make sure to read up on the intricate details of this before you go ahead with it. A handy tool to use when transferring data from one computer to another is OneDrive. You can upload all of your documents here, and then transfer them to your new device without any issues at all.

  1. Next steps

After you migrate the data from one device to another, it is important that you ensure the security and the safety of your files. When it comes to files, you can do this by regularly updating your applications and making sure that all documents are converted to a file format which works with it. Another thing you can do is backup your file history often to ensure that you have a history of all documents as well as all versions of documents.

  1. Wipe your old hard drive

Think of your old machine as a commercial cleaning assignment. Now that the data has been moved from one place to another, it is time to clean your old machine thoroughly to get rid of any old data that you no longer require. Once you are sure that everything has been transferred safely, you can delete everything off your old device and ensure that it is clean of data. Once you have completed this step in the process you can say goodbye to your old device and move on to a new one.
