Offshore Wind Partnership Awards £1.2m To Boost UK Manufacturing Capacity

The announcement comes as the UK Government and International Energy Agency hosts a summit on the future of energy security.

The Offshore Wind Growth Partnership has awarded £1.2m to five UK companies to support early-stage investment in new and expanded manufacturing facilities for the offshore wind sector.

The funding forms part of the second round of the Manufacturing Facility Support Programme, which aims to strengthen domestic production capacity and reduce risks associated with major capital investment. Each successful applicant will receive matched funding of up to £500,000 to help progress projects towards final investment decisions.

The programme is designed to unlock private sector spending, with supported projects expected to deliver at least £5m in capital investment within two years, generate £5m in annual revenue and create a minimum of 20 jobs over five years.

The latest recipients are King Site Services (SW) Limited, Mainstay Marine Solutions, Marine Power Systems, Peterhead Energy Service Base Limited, part of MDL, and PPI Engineering Ltd.

The projects include facilities for producing secondary steel for floating wind structures, material storage for multi-vessel construction programmes, early-stage fabrication of deep-water platforms, turbine generator manufacturing and repair, and a new cable handling centre.

OWGP said the investments would expand UK manufacturing capability, support innovation in critical technologies and strengthen the resilience of the offshore wind supply chain, in line with the Offshore Wind Industrial Growth Plan.

Tom Piper, project manager at OWGP, said the programme was focused on removing barriers at a crucial stage of development. “MFSP is designed to unlock progress where strong projects need targeted support to move towards final investment,” he said. “This funding round shows the depth of opportunity within the UK supply chain.”

Lynne McIntosh-Grieve, head of programme delivery at OWGP, said expanding domestic manufacturing was essential to meeting national offshore wind targets. “The programme provides a vital bridge between early development and major capital investment,” she said. “It helps businesses turn strong concepts into deliverable facilities.”

Iain Sinclair, executive director at Global Energy Service Holding and non-executive director of OWGP, said the initiative was building long-term industrial capability. “Through two funding rounds, MFSP has now supported 10 companies, laying the foundations for sustained growth, export potential and a more resilient supply chain,” he said.

The awards come as the UK seeks to scale up offshore wind deployment to meet its 2030 targets and strengthen energy security. Industry analysts say targeted support for manufacturing infrastructure will be critical if domestic suppliers are to capture a larger share of future project spending.

OWGP said further funding rounds are expected as it continues to work with industry and government to accelerate investment across the offshore wind sector.
