Morgan Sindall Wins £29.3m Contract For West London School Redevelopment

Villiers High School in Southall concept

Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed by Ealing Council to deliver a £29.3m redevelopment of Villiers High School in Southall, centred on a new energy-efficient teaching facility.

The project, procured through the Southern Construction Framework, will replace an ageing 1960s building with a modern three-storey block designed to increase capacity and improve learning environments. The development comes as population growth in west London drives demand for additional school places.

The new building will include 22 classrooms, 11 science laboratories and six ICT and media suites, alongside staff facilities and a rooftop sky garden. Once completed, it is expected to enable the school to better match its intake to local demand.

Sustainability features will include air source heat pumps, rooftop solar panels and rainwater conservation systems, with a significant proportion of energy needs met off-grid. The design also incorporates outdoor learning space, including a planned forest school and new entrance.

Internally, the facility will prioritise natural light, ventilation and acoustic comfort, with flexible teaching spaces aimed at supporting both educational outcomes and student wellbeing.

Morgan Sindall said the project would also deliver a social value programme focused on local employment and skills. Delivered in partnership with organisations including West London College, Jobcentre Plus and the Construction Youth Trust, the initiative is expected to create 10 jobs, three apprenticeships and 16 work experience placements, alongside training and careers support.

Richard Dobson, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction in London, said the scheme would play a key role in supporting the area’s growth. “With significant development in Southall, it is vital that educational infrastructure keeps pace with the community,” he said.

Josh Blacker, cabinet member at Ealing Council, said the project would help future-proof local education provision. “Expanding capacity at Villiers High School will support future generations while delivering wider benefits through skills, training and employment,” he said.
